Planning blog :music video

 

Props:

Some props that could be used in the music video include flowers, a record player, and a polaroid camera/pictures. These props would fit the vibe of the music video since it is a love song. Other props could include wired headphones and candy hearts.

Costumes:

The costumes would consist of casual clothing. The girls could wear dresses or skirts while the boys wear shirts and jeans. This would be good for the setting of the music video which will most likely be a garden.

Schedule:

On 10/30/25, our group researches conventions of a love song music video.

On 11/2/25, our group gets the props for the music video.

On 11/5/25, our group gets the costumes for the music video. The costumes that will be used most of our group probably already has.

On 11/9/25, our group will film the music video.

On 11/14/25, our group will begin to edit the music video.

On 11/20/25, our group will finalize the music video. Then it will be ready to be published!

Location List:

Our first location will be a garden or outdoor area. we will film clips and videos of people and their partners walking through the garden together. They may use props such as flowers and and a camera taking polaroids in these scenes. This will set the main overall feel of my music video. 

Our second location will include an old diner with a somewhat 80s appearance. Here I will film the couples eating together and drinking milkshakes and hanging out. This will be shown throughout  the music video, staggered with the videos from the outdoor area . 

Backup Plan:

If the weather is bad and we can not film outside, we can just film the scenes in the diner. We can save those for another day when the weather is nicer. We could also just film on 11/12 as a backup date . We will try confirm before hand and confirm the date. There are many possible options for the filming and the dates we film.

pitch blog: music video

 

My first pitch or idea will be a music video for some kind of old 60s/70s love song. I am thinking 'If' by the band Bread . This song is beautiful and is about love. I find the lyrics beautiful. I think that old love songs are so sweet and so genuine and the videos for them are as well. For example, 'Something' by The Beatles. The whole video shows the Beatles and their girlfriends or wives. These videos will be good to take inspiration from since they are so elegant and delicate . I want to do something like this. I was thinking a video showing some polaroids of my boyfriend then little clips of him. I could also do the same with my friend. This could be a cute complication of young love and how it is seen in my eyes. 

Pitch 2: An 80's rock n' roll song music video

This music video would feature different instruments. Examples are guitars, basses, and drums. It would also show different rock stars. The outfits in this music video would be inspired by 80's fashion. One song that could be used is Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi. This would be a good song to use because it is a song I like a lot. l is also a well known song. This would help the music video appeal to a wider audience.

However this pitch is very similar to my commercial. Therefore I think I would rather do the other pitch to explore a different theme and concept.

We are leaning more towards pitch 1! 

Group blog 2: music video

 

I am working with my good friend Elise! We have known eachother a long time. Due to this, we have gotten close over the years. We attended the same middle school and have been inseparable since. 

Elise is a lot of fun to work with but also a very good, hard worker. She really prioritizes stuff like school. This also makes me want to work harder and stay focused on school. 

We both think alike on ideas and are open to ideas. It makes the work a lot easier when you work with sombody who really listens. An example is, in middle school we did a group project together. The project was for civics, we got it done in a flash! This is all due to our good work ethic.  It was about the bill of rights and had a catchy tune to it and came across very well, everyone loved it. This is how I know we will be able to float ideas around easily and agree on them! Elise is a very talented person in many ways. She likes things like literature and music. She is a phenomenal artist and pianist! 

I look forward to working together this year. I know with our dedication and motivation to work, we will do phenomenal. 

Intro Blog

 

My name is Nikki, I am in media studies because I love films. 

If you look above, that is a picture of me playing a live at one of my gigs. Somthing about me is that I love music, I play guitar and bass. I have been fortunate enough to play MANY shows and I love playing live music! I have also got the opportunity to record in the studio for an album multiple times. I have been playing in this band since I was 14, so I have had a lot of learning experiences and come a long way from then. Just the other day, as you can see in that photo; we played at a Cafe and record shop. We had to jump through some hurdles along the way, but it ended up being a very busy show and the crowd loved us. Despite the complications and difficulties... We still stuck by it and went on with the performance.

I am also a collecter of all sorts of physical media, including Records, CDs, cassets, DVDs, and VHS tapes. Most of my life and the way I dress is based around the music I am into, it is a nice outlet for me. 

I also am a movie enjoyer. Some of my favorite films include, Vannila sky, Eternal sunshine of a Spotless mind, memento, Deathproof and the Rocky horror picture show! I love watching movies and having sombody to talk to about the films, I find all the aspects of them very fascinating. The idea of being completely immersed and into a piece of art is something that is beautiful. 

Other than music, or school, a really nice part of my life is the fun dates I get to go on. One of our favorite spots is a little diner called Moonlight . The walls are covered with posters from movies, some of my favorites include the Pulp Fiction ones!

I am really enjoying being apart of this media studies class. I look forward to learning more about the process of what goes into film making.

1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent socal groups or issues? 

Guitar commercials usually show music connecting people, and bonds forming through the music. The content consists of shots and clips of guitars being played. This always involves a person showing enjoyment for playing their instrument. In my commercial, there were clips of me and sombody playing guitars, and showing enjoyment towards them. This represents social groups related to music and musicians. It may represent people in a band or people who generally just play the guitar for fun. This all in all can exibit the many uses of guitar for different occasions. My commerical mirrored these as well as showing the representation of a wide range of people. This proves that anybody can play guitar. This encourages the viewer that it is possible for even them. 

2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

This project engages with all sorts of people. In my commercial you can see two very different people. One of them wearing a pretty simple outfit, the other more alternative. This shows that they are both playing and both enjoying these guitars, despite how different they both are. This appeals to everyone who may watch it. This is so nobody feels that they can't play the guitar or get one. Some scenes like the record player can show people who are fans of music , how fun it can be. By showing somthing well liked like The Beatles, and records, it may appeal to the average person. Showing that everyone has something to gain with playing the guitar.  

3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project? 

Throughout this project, I feel I have grown as a film maker. I have always enjoyed films and watching them, since I have been given the opportunity to make one, I got to see another side of something I am very passionate about. I had to research information about how these commercials were shot and see the angles and editing used. By being aware of these skills, it let me reflect them in my work. I really enjoyed filming and preparing for the commercial. It was really interesting to gather the props together and figure out what I was going to film and when. I am contemplating a career in the film industry, this further proves my ideas and dreams for this. By really feeling like I am part of the process of making the film, and staring in it, it made me feel like it was part of something special. 

4. How did you intergrade technologies - software, hardware and online- in this project? 

When looking into the making of my commercial, I didn't do anything too special. I just used my phone to film these scenes and clips. By using my phone I kept the filming pretty simple, since I am familiar with this filming. This made the commercial somewhat messy and low quality. In the future I would like to try use a camera and spend more time prioritizing the lighting and editing. The editing was somewhat sloppy as well. This is due to me using capcut to edit. It was a software I was comfortable with and understood, this doesn't mean it would be clean. There is a lot I still have yet to learn about filming and editing. I will definitely figure out more efficient ways to film and take advantage of technology for the next one. 

My Commercial

 This is my commercial for Aice media studies, I really enjoyed filming and making this! Enjoy! I am really passionate about music and guitars so this was a fun start! 

Production: the props

Somthing very memorable in commercials is the props being used. I tried to use very appropriate props for my prduct. Since the advertisement is for Epiphone guitars, I used my guitars as props. One bass guitar and one electric guitar. When filming I picked up my guitar and played and had it filmed. This acted as a key role in the commercial. Making the audience feel inspired to play the guitar. This overall contributes to the point of an advertisement, which is to incourage the audience to buy the product. An amp is also used in this ad, along with the cord to plug into the guitar. For this I used my real equipment. My room was also the star of the video, this contributes to the theme of music. My room is covered in posters and music related memorabilia. The first scene shows my record player and the Beatles revolver as props. These added to the production and the music being played. It was crucial to highlight guitars since Epiphone is a guitar company. Luckily the filming being in my room made it all very accessable. Everything being in one place made it easy to film and move everything. This also insures that all the equipment worked and was ready to be played . Overall, all the props were related to music and carry on with the overall music bringing us together, which is our theme . Everything was placed to make the audience feel connected and understand the connection music gives.
